02 NEWSPAPERS

If you access The Observer print edition online, you can access added features. What are they?

When reading the online version of the Observer there`re features available which the readers of the physical copy cannot access. One of these features is online readers would be able to make comments on articles and stories that physical readers can't do, where they can state their own opinion on the story meaning they are interacting with article much more. Another feature which is available for online readers   is that through looking at an online copy means that they will have a much larger amount of articles to look at. This includes older copies and stories, this is not possible to physical Observer readers can't do unless  the shop near them stocks the older copies. The final feature is that in the online versions of the newspaper, we can see tabs across the pages, these tabs could offer a deeper insight into the chosen story, this would allow the readers to gain a greater understanding of story which they read, this could make their reading more personalised to them as they have an interest in the subject matter of that part of the article. e.g sports team they support or political party which they support comparing this ti a basic physical version where you cannot do this.

This is The Observer's Twitter page. What do you notice?

The first thing I notice is that share, retweet, like and comment this would make the readers of The Observer feel like they can have a say on their opinion on the article and great bonds with other readers with a similar opinion
Another thing i noticed is the text "Tomorrows Front Page" this would give a little tease to the daily readers. It could also make the passionate readers of The Observer's twitter think they get early access making you feel more up-to-date than the general population.

01 PROMOTING THE LEGO MOVIE

The uses and gratifications framework outlined by Bulmer and Katz, identifies 4 main audience pleasures. Which included; entertainment, personal identity, surveillance and social interactions/ personal relationships

In my view the most important category offered by the Lego movie video game is escapism, diversion and entertainment. It offers lots of action as we are playing as the main character who has to solve quests and tackle the mission of taking down Lord Business. This can be done in many different characters which you could pick from. As of the large menu page where you can pick the character you think you best relate to, overall meaning you can immerse yourself into the game even more.

Another important audience pleasure is that it offers a co-operative gameplay, which means you could play with a friend and combine both your skills to complete all the missions. This would allow a relationship to form as you both work together as a team to take down the boss, the video game also offers the feeling of humour category is our social relationships. This could relate to the water cooler moment as you can talk and build a community around the LMVG.

LMVG allows players to engage in a battle to save the world and defeating bad people, on the side of heroes and defeating evil. Against an evil and bad opposition in the form of Lord Business. It also allows younger viewers and players to play as Emmitt who is a very accessible character just like they are, as he  need supports of his friends, as he is just a regular person with no superpowers. As well as this female gameplayers would feel relatable to the character of Wildstyle as she is seen not to be any less powerful, or important compare to the male characters, this could allow the female player to connect with the character . This is portrayed also in her poster when we see her fighting evil. It will also give them a chance to escape from the real life world which they face everyday, and allow them to feel powerful and a sense of importance after they complete the game.

03 CREATING MEDIA

The first part of today's session is planning how to take forwards my hip hop music video under lockdown at home. I came to these decisions:

  • I will approach family members to act as cameraman and discuss suitable filming times outdoors, indoors, in the garden. When possible i might ask my family (eg my sister) to stop whilst we go on our walk at my local playground where i can get some shots for my music video.
  • Montage sequences: I start today by making a practice photo in Powerpoint using 'remove background', featuring yourself as performer against a suitable backdrop (below). I have completed one where i am pictured in the new york streets
  • A series of such images could be cut to the beat. Therefore, is the montage sequence likely to go with a 'quiet' (slow) bit of my lyrics or a 'busy' (fast) bit? That decision will affect what I shoot.
  • I had already planned to bring a still image to life, with his over-the-shoulder shot of the singer looking at the superhero comic, then seeing the image, then making it spring alive.
  • I will re-imagine my music video so that I am able to do it in the lockdown conditions. E.g. new storyboard and selection of camera angles/movements.
